This is the final year that the U. Mint will issue bullion American Gold Eagles with the original reverse design that has appeared on the series since its debut! A new reverse design will start appearing on bullion American Gold Eagles later in 2021. This 2021 dated Gold Eagle coin is part of the series' 36th year of issue.

The coin measures 27 mm in diameter, struck from 1/2 Troy oz. This coin has the Type-1 design bearing the original Family of Eagles reverse design. The expertly minted gold coin features a spectacular Brilliant Uncirculated finish. Obverse: The obverse features a revival of Augustus Saint-Gaudens' 1907 Double Eagle design, depicting Lady Liberty surrounded by fifty stars, advancing forward with the rays of a rising sun behind, while carrying an olive branch to symbolize peace and flaming torch to represent freedom. Inscriptions include "LIBERTY" and 2021. Saint-Gaudens was an artist of the American Renaissance, who crafted monuments dedicated to Civil War heroes, along with additional medallic designs. Reverse: The reverse design by Miley Busiek illustrates an American bald eagle grasping an olive branch in flight above his nesting family. Busiek is an American sculptor, with works on permanent display in locations such as the Smithsonian American History Museum and the George W. Exceptional GEM Brilliant Uncirculated Condition.
